A train journey is easier when you already know your destination, the line you need and where to change. BusSing includes offline MRT maps and routing, so you can keep planning when your phone has a poor signal.
Start with your destination station
Before leaving, identify the MRT station you want to reach and the station where you will start. A neighbourhood name is not always the same as the station name, so confirm the station that serves your destination.
Use BusSing to plan the MRT route, then look through the whole journey. Pay particular attention to interchanges. Knowing where you will change trains is more useful than trying to remember every station along the way.
Look at the transfer before you board
Check which line you begin on and which line you need after an interchange. At the station, confirm the direction using the platform signs and the route information. This is especially useful for a journey you do not make regularly.
Leave yourself time to walk between platforms. A connection on a map does not mean the platforms are next to each other. If you are meeting someone at a fixed time, allow time for the walk at the other end as well.
What you can do offline
BusSing lets you browse MRT maps and plan MRT routes without an internet connection. That makes it useful when you are underground, have poor reception or want to look through a route without relying on mobile data.
Offline routing and live transport information are different. A stored map does not tell you whether a service is disrupted right now. Follow station announcements and operator information for current changes, and keep the app updated so you have its latest MRT map.
Connecting your MRT journey with a bus
If you are taking a bus to the station, check its arrival estimate before setting out. On the return journey, look at the bus stop you need after leaving the station. Stops on opposite sides of the road can serve different directions.
BusSing also shows mapped bus routes and live arrival estimates. Those live estimates need a network connection, even though the MRT map can work offline. Once your phone is connected, check the bus again rather than relying on the estimate you saw at the start of your train trip.
Build a small habit for unfamiliar trips
Check the destination station, review the interchange and allow time for the walk. You do not need to study the whole MRT network to make one journey. A quick review before boarding helps you spend less time checking your phone along the way.
Try it on your next commute.
